Wchar_t vs char

I wanted to use Cryptlex on a multi platform program. Is there a way to use Cryptlex always with char or with wchar_t, whatever the underlying OS? So far, I’ve started to use Cryptlex for the windows build, now that I want to test with the linux build, I realize that I have to change many functions in my code to manage wchar_t/char depending the OS while I wasn’t expecting this.
Wouldn’t it be possible to always use char assuming that it does encode UTF8 for instance?
