Is it possible to somehow restrict the releases clients/users see? We have a beta version/release of our product that we only want specific clients/users to be able to see and download.

Making a release visible to some users while keeping it hidden from others is not supported. However, you can manage access by setting the private property of a release to true before publishing it. This way, the release will not appear in the customer portal, and you can share the direct download URL only with the users you want to provide access to.
