Could trials be extended *before* expiry?

I get a modest number of trial extension requests, and occasionally they come when a user’s trial is a about to expire, but they’ve just gotten their hardware and want a few more days. At present, I have to wait for their trial to expire and then I can extend it. This feels like an unnecessary restriction - can it be changed relatively easily?
